Günter Wilhelm Grass[2] (German: [ˈɡʏntɐ ˈɡʁas]; 16 October 1927 – 13 April 2015) was a German novelist, poet, playwright, illustrator, graphic artist, sculptor, and recipient of the 1999 Nobel Prize in Literature., In late 1944 he was drafted as a soldier in Waffen SS during WW II. He was captured by allies after the war and he was released in 1946.   later he took up to writing.
