VELU THAMBI THE DIWAN OF TRAVENCORE COCHIN (During the reign of King Balarama Verma). He revolted against East India Company in the early 19 century. He is seen leading his troops against the fortress of governor Macaulay which later surrendred. But the governor escaped on a horse. The revolt was supressed after many battles and Velu Thambi committed suicide at Malladi in a temple and prefered death to capture. The torch for liberation was later carried by Rani Laxmi bai, Tantya Tope, Nana Sahib, Bahadur Shah, Rani of Kittur, Veera Pandya Katta bomman, Rani ( Begum) of Awadh, Rani of Tulsipur and kunwar singh.
