TERRORISM AND AFTERMATH OF BIN LADENS EXECUTION

TERRORISM AND AFTERMATH OF BIN LADENS
EXECUTION

Dr K Prabhakar Rao

At last the devil incarnate and the most wanted international terrorist, criminal and thug Osama Bin Laden has been killed right in Pakistan’s heartland. It was not in some remote caves of Waziristan as expected such as Tora Bora caves, but right under the nose of Pak leaders. He escaped near death at Tora Bora American crackdown after 9/11 . Entire world was taken by surprise when the news of Laden’s death were declared. It came as heavens gift to the mankind. The man who terrorized the world with wide net work of terrorist at last lay dead in a fortified house very close to Pak capital and nearer to Pak Military academy. In fact USA leading the NATO forces in Afghanistan borders against Taliban were tracking Laden without respite and never gave up their mission. There were rumors earlier that he was already dead in earlier attacks, or that he might have died by serious illness etc. Statements were also made that he was buried at an unknown place and his grave can never be identified. These were all wishful things or deliberately spread to divert attention of NATO forces with the aim of weakening the hunt for Bin Laden. All these rumors became untrue when Laden was declared dead in a quick operation by American Navy commandos. There were great celebrations in west over his death while Pakistan and some Islamic countries strongly condemned his killing.
In India too, there was unhappiness among radicals and a section of society and special prayers were held for the soul of fallen one to be in peace. Indian Communists condemned American action as usual who can never see any positive thing in any American actions at any point of time. The reactions were mixed in Muslim dominated countries. Some were careful and kept their mouths shut for the fear of retaliation by sympathizers of Bin Laden. Indian leaders however were very careful in expressing their opinion on American actions and the words used were very carefully framed as India is a major target for terrorist actions and Al Qaeda considers India as an American stooge. Indians are good also at it and they are considered as mere paper tigers and do some saber rattling with blunt and rusty swords. Indians are also too good at drafting vague statements like cat on a wall safeguarding their skins from all sides.
It is a fact that for Islamic rebels who propagate Wahhabi Islam and the narrow outlook in world, his death was a great shock and loss too. They lost a cult figure, guiding devil or evil spirit ( In negative perspective) and a infamous radical and discredited leader of Wahhabi thought. They see no good reason in today’s modern world and get inspired by the preaching of Laden who was determined to take Islam to the medieval tribal days of Prophet Mohammed ( PBUH). The ideologies of Wahhabi thought and West no doubt clashed. Laden considered America as the source of trouble for its perceived evil influence for all Islamic countries and the role played by USA in middle East politics has been seen as big brothers interference in the affairs of Islamic states. American garrisons in Saudi Arabia and Kuwait were unwelcome. American war in past against Iraq after occupation of Kuwait was most disliked. Whipping of troublesome states in middle east by senior Bush and later by his son George Bush was considered as an aggression on Islamic existence by Laden. 9/11 was the culmination of hatred towards America and thus Laden has dug his own grave. He considered Americans as evil men who influenced Islamic youth in evil way. Laden after 9/11 found safe haven in Afghanistan ruled by Taliban the barbarous jihadi forces. Taliban regime was dethroned like a pack of cards under US attack and they escaped to Pakistans western borders. Al Qaeda and Taliban found safe haven in Waziristan all these years. AlQaeda has built up wide net work in many countries around the world and even in USA surely they have their net work. Most of the mosques in USA are Wahhabi inspired Sunni Institutions. Wahhabi thought is the philosophy of the organization that propagates Jihadi Islam while AlQaeda and Taliban are the frontal network to achieve the goals. There are many local outfits that spring up in various corners of the world in each country that spread hatred towards non Muslims ( Non believers or Kafirs in Islamic parlor). These include all non Muslims by faith and also sub sects of Muslims who do not subscribe to Wahabi philosophy and also those who have modern views and recommend liberalization. AlQaeda use such local outfits in different parts of the world to propagate hatred and achieve its nefarious aim of destabilization and spread Jihadi Islam. But these small outfits once lacked financial power to undertake major tasks that can cause commotion around the world or to a particular country. Incidents such as 9/11 or 26/11 ( to a lesser scale), Madrid bombings, Bombay blasts are the major ones that have caused great suffering and embarrassment to countries. Such actions can be engineered by only major organizations enjoying patronage from a country such as Pakistan, Iran and a Talibanised country. When AlQaeda was being misguided by Bin Laden there was no doubt that he enjoyed support from rogue nations that were anti American. With departure of Laden what is expected now? It is also foreseen that the franchise units are sufficiently motivated and financially supported by various vested interests and could undertake actions causing trouble in devastating manner.
If some one considers that with death of Bin Laden terrorism has lost it’s base and the fight against it was over, surely he is wrong and is off on tangent. Terrorism has now spread to Islamic youth and indoctrination of Jihadi Islam among youth has spread like congress grass ( An evil weed) around the world. Youth are attracted towards suicide bombings and firmly believe that those who die for Islam go to heavens directly to enjoy all perks , virgins and comforts. AlQaeda is now not considered as a single organization and it has scores of sub units or franchise in all corners of the world. Lashkar e Toiba is equally a dangerous organization as Al Qaeda as per US statements. As per an expert on Middle East affairs, The American intelligence would not lower its guard as it has to guard it’s interests against the retaliation for Bin Laden’s killing. It expects smaller units of Al Qaeda to retaliate at different places, not necessarily in American Main land. Lone individuals are the most likely to launch attacks in the United States following the death of al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden, according to a joint Department of Homeland Security/FBI bulletin sent to state and local law enforcement. The next few days will tell how the world, especially the Middle East, reacts to the death of bin Laden, said Beth Dougherty, a professor of political science at Beloit College who specializes in the Middle East. These attacks could be in the form of suicide bombers air airports, dock yards, railway stations, Hotels where Americans visit, beaches, universities, banks, entertainment parks, trains, subways, and many smaller installations. Individuals could try to attack low-security targets using simple improvised explosive devices or small arms and it is almost impossible to guard each and every place around the world all the 24 hours and loop holes can be always found by the attackers. Therefore vigilance has to be more stringent now than in past.
Coming to Pakistan, it is seen that double game of Pakistan has been exposed. All thee years Pakistan has swindle American aid and gave lip sympathy to the cause of hunt of terrorists. It is widely believed that Pakistani top brass and ISI were very much aware of Laden’s presence in the country, but they never cared to hunt him down in fact they abetted Jihadism. There are some quarters who claim that Pakistan in fact has no control over Waziristan, the tribal belt in Afghan border and the writ of Pak govt does not work there. Pak military offenses earlier on Taliban hide outs did not yield much success and it was later called off. Pak Taliban in the meantime grew bold with the motivation of Afghan Taliban and Al Qaeda,
As a matter of fact, Pak - Taliban is trying desperately to wrest control over Pakistan. They have surely infiltrated Pak armed forces and ISI too. Recent severe and devastating attack on Pak Navy establishment at Karachi is a clear example. Nearly 30 Pak Naval personnel were killed and two naval air crafts were destroyed. Taliban no doubt have grown bold and are able to attack at will at selected places at their discretion. The involvement of a Past Naval commando in the attack was also revealed recently. The journalist Saleem shahzad of Hong Kong based Asia times on line and Italian news agency, Adnkronos international was abducted from Islamabad, tortured and was put to death recently because he revealed most probable involvement of former Pak Naval personnel and infiltration of AlQaeda into Pak defense forces. His body was found 200 KM away from Islamabad in a canal with torture marks. ISI hand is suspected and ISI is already discredit after Ladens killing in Pakistan. As per Human rights watch, the journalist used to receive threatening calls from ISI and was under surveillance ever since 2010.
Infiltration is not new and this has happened over a period as a systematic manner. Wahabi philosophy is much inspiring to youth and for those who are ardent followers of Islam. Sadly educated youth, sometimes even highly educated and qualified professionals have been indoctrinated by AlQaeda and Taliban philosophy. Youth can be easily swayed away .On the whole, Pak faces severe and serious threat from their own Taliban cadre. Taliban was created by Pakistan to counter Russian presence in Afghanistan. Now the devil has turned towards the master and trying to devour it. Pakistan can not escape it. Pak army too is Jihad oriented and are not like Turks who believe in democracy and softer form of Islam where Islam has been limited to the houses than in to streets like in Pakistan, Bangladesh and in India too. Terrorism has come to stay in world and is being used as a tool for destabilizing, blackmailing and dethroning established governments with a view to take such nations back to medieval times when hordes of horse mounted Isalmists plundered the countries around unleashing mayhem, murder, loot, rape, plunder and devastation. The civilized nations have to be more vigilant, ruthless and ever ready to fight these evil and sadist forces all the time. The saddest part is that inspite of Pakistan having been very badly exposed USA is still unable to call a spade a spade . It has been giving careful statements about Pakistans role in harboring Laden in the country for the fear of breakdown of relations. The world knows that Pakaistan is strategically more important to USA than India owing to its closeness to Iran and Afghanistan. USA has long standing conflict with Iran and this is of very great importance to USA militarily. Secondly Indian government was unable to support American actions in world affairs where military intervention was involved. India hesitates as a policy for such ventures owing to domestic pressures and its deep attachment to non violence and non alignment ( although it is already dead practically). While India hesitated Pakistan has grabbed opportunities and also military and economical aid all these years. India receives lip sympathy from USA most of the times while for Pakistan, dollars pour in. This is naked truth.
