Palmiro Togliatti (Italian: [palˈmiːro toʎˈʎatti] About this sound listen ; 26 March 1893 – 21 August 1964) was an Italian politician and leader of the Italian Communist Party from 1927 until his death. He was nicknamed by his supporters Il Migliore ("The Best").In 1930 he became a citizen of the Soviet Union. during WW II he lived in Soviet Union and directed his party through radio messages. he encouraged them for resistance against Nazis. .From 1944 to 1945 he served as Dy PM of Italian Govt formed by the king. He also served as minister of Justice.He refused offer of Stalin to become the Secretary General if communist party in 1951 And preferred to stay as head of Italian communist party. Togliatti survived an assassination attempt in 1948 when a Pro fascist student shot him three times . He survived the grave assassination attempt and died in 1964, during a holiday in Crimea on the Black Sea.
