He was an officer in British Indian army during WW II and was captured by Japanese in Eastern front. He was much influenced by speeches and personality of Subnas Chandra Bose and joined INA of Free Indian Govt that fought Along with Japanese forces against Allies. he led INA force in Kohima sector in Indian soil and captured the areas after bitter fights and held The areas. he was promoted as the divisional commander of INA. however When Atom bombs were dropped by USA on Japan, Japanese forces and INA forces surrendered to Gen Mac Arthur.In 1945 ..46 INA Officers were court martial at Red Fort trials on the charges of treason, murder etc and Shah Nawaz Khan was sentenced to death. There was great uproar nationwide against the trials as the INA men were considered as freedom fighters by People of India and sensing problems The C I C of British Indian army commuted the sentence and they were released. Later Gen Khan entered politics. He passed away in 1983.
