REINHOLD HANNING Reinhold Hanning was a SS guard at Auschwitz camp during WW II. He joined Hitlers youth in 1935 and SS waffen in 1940. He saw active combat and was wounded by grenade splinters and was therefore posted to Auschwitz camp as the commanding officer opined that he was not fit for combat duty. At Auschwitz he was guard at the camp watch tower. After the war he escaped and was not found. After seventy years of termination of WW II he was brought in-front of a German court of law. To face charges of war crimes. witnesses arrived. From far off places at the court. In a small German town Detmold. He was frail, weak and on fined to wheel chair. He was tried for only two hours in a day due to his advanced age of 94 years. Although the court did not establish that he directly killed any one by his hands, the court sentenced him to five years in jail by virtue of his presence at the criminal camp That aided the carrying out of evil activities of the camp. Thus, he had to share the responsibility for the crimes. At-last ,justice prevailed On 5 may 2016.
