Werner Karl von Haeften (9 October 1908 – 21
July 1944[1]) was an Oberleutnant in the Wehrmacht, who took part in the
military-based conspiracy against Adolf Hitler known as the 20Julyplot.. He was
the staff officer of Claus von Stuffen burg who actually planted the briefcase
bomb under the conference table of Hitler. He is considered a hero of the
German anti-Nazi resistance. After the failure of the plot, he was arrested and
executed by firing squad that was hurriedly assembled.He ran across the volley
of shots when Stauffenburg was being executed and took bullets on him. His
brother was executed later in a prison.
