WE NEED TO OVERHAUL THE ENTIRE SYSTEM OF GIVING. GALLANTRY AWARDS IN ARMED FORCES. By DrbKmPrabhakar Rao

WE NEED TO OVERHAUL THE ENTIRE SYSTEM OF GIVING GALLANTRY AWARDS IN ARMED   FORCES.

Recently I posted few pencil sketches of Nazi Wehrmacht I.e German army and SS Waffen , i.e para military tank platoon commanders who took part in WW II. There are six most distinguished tank commanders in world from German armed forces and SS Waffen who scored more than hundred tank kills. some of them died in commbat. They had The distinction as tank aces. However US, British army and we do not have such policy of using the term as Tank aces and See the armoured corps merely as a support to Infantry. therefore Infantry gets the first preference.Every one knows that Infantry ultimately holds ground and is supreme, We also must have such distinguishing words and awards for those who score many tank kills in tank to tank battles like straight shoots. Germans gave highest awards such as Knights cross of Iron cross with oak leaves to many stalwarts like tank aces while they lived immediately after their bravery unlike we who bestow PVC invariably only after death. major Somanth Sharma was Such an officer in 1948.What use is of An award if it is given after death. In India our people even Educated
do not know that a living PVC must be saluted even after retirement by every citizen. They are clueless and It is a national trait. In 1965 war , there were fierce tank battles and Officer and regt commanderTarapore was given PVC after death. No one remembers his name sadly.Indian armoured corps made a pulp of pakistan armour having latest Patton tanks in 1965 from USA that became Embarrassment to US authorities. There were innumerable Patton tanks with straight clean holes in their frontal armour and turrets. In WW II the German tank aces shot scores of Sherman allied tanks that had high siljhoute and 75 mm short gun. Lumbering Churchill tank with A small gun was no match and was outclassed by German Tiger tank. Indian tank crew did well with WW II Sherman tanks having 75 mm cannon apart from Heavy centurions. In 1971 on western front , we had fierce tank battles in few sectors and in some sectors like chamb , there were reverses.tanks T55 did good job for us. Pak also had T 54 and T 55 tanks.I think you agree that brave tank commanders must be recognised quickly in future tank battles if any. the entire award system needs overhaul If we have to win wars. I know this a voluntary army and side lined and humiliated from time to time by those who matter. less said is better about services who are sidelined and recently there was a talk of calling them non combatants.
