ERRAM MANZIL Palace CONTD
the palace was built by Fakhr ul mulq. A noble of Nizam VI in 1870. earlier he was living at Asad Manzil which is now Nizam college. The palace was built on a hill and had commanding look at Hussein sagar . sadly now the palace is surrounded by chaotic All stray houses under Hyd municipal corporation and palace can not be seen from the road. The mansion is located atop a hillock known as Erragadda or "red hill" in the native Telugu language. For this reason, nawab Fakhrul Mulk decided to name the new palace "Iram Manzil" (Persian for 'Paradise Mansion'), because the Persian word 'Iram' meaning 'Paradise' sounds like "Erram," the Telugu word for "red." He also got the building painted a shade of red in order to emphasize the link, and so you had the red-coloured Erra Manzil on top of Erragadda hill. The nawab intended that the mansion be known by two similar-sounding names: 'Iram Manzil' for the Persian-friendly Muslim nobility of the state and 'Erram Manzil' for the local Telugu people. In time, the latter name has prevailed, and "Erra Manzil" is now the official name of the palace.
Errum Manzil was used for royal banquets and other grand events. It was furnished with Louis XVI furniture. after fall if Nizams govt , the palace was taken over by the Government to be used as a records store-house . After some years it was again transferred into the hands of Public Works Department. Presently this palace houses offices of the Engineers-in-chief and the Chief Engineers of the Roads and Buildings and Irrigation/ Command Area Development Departments. With democracy prevailing in Hyderabad luxuries of nobles disappeared. Respect to the great palace also declined. the govt built a cycle and motorcycle shed infront of the palace looking silly. the govt made alterations to suit needs of an office neglecting all architectural values. the palace slowly lost its mighty appearance. windows became dull and drab and structure became pale too.The mighty steps in the portal leading to palace decayed with broken slabs. And none cared. theIndians are best at spoiling the edifices that are handed down as heritage. Visitors scribbled on walls at many places. less said is better. The palace is no more a private property as it was sold to NIzams govt by the family to pay for the debts. Being a state property probably KCR is of opinion that it can be demolished at his will..
Recently the Government of Telangana said that the heritage structure, Errum Manzil would be razed to the ground because of its dilapidated state. There is huge effort to save this heritage structure by the locals. This heritage comes under B2 category on the list of archaeological survey of india.[2][3][4][5][6]
