He was a medical student in Netherlands and took keen interest in Flying and became an ace pilot after securing the required confirmed kills in air combat during WW II. when Netherlnads was occupied by Germany he managed to escape to England where he took part in RAF operations against Germany. his air craft was once shot down by Germans and he landed down safely by parachute but was promptly captured by German patrol. He was interned along with many airforce personnel of allies at the newly established camp. Stalag luft III. He was one of the members of the Prison break out during WW II out of 76. He was one if the three persons who successfully Escaped German net of Third Reich. After WW II, he completed his medical studies and got his degree from Utrecht in 1951. He practiced medicine in USA. Hd was awarded OBE by England and was honoured by the Queen of Netherlnads. his historic escape along with others was filmed as great escape.
