this tragic accident occurred few years ago at Hyderabad outskirts in early hours of morning when darkness was fading. AN heavy lorry with LONG platform WAS CARRYING VERY LARGE boulders from some where to Hyderabad probably to granite works. The boulders said were placed on the platform and were held tight by strong ropes and chains too to the platform that was very sturdy. reportedly , the driver applied sudden brakes to the vehicle while travelling at reasonable speed and could be accelerating too.The mass of the boulders was so great that the forward force on them due to braking of the vehicle resulted in snapping of the ropes and chains in a flick if time and the largest Boulder that was close to the drivers cabin hit the cabin with such a force crushing it to pulp killing the inmates instantly. the force was terrible that the front axle along with wheels and springs got detached from vehicle and were crushed to pieces.The engine and gear box were thrown out of the vehicle when holding bolts were broken. the boulders one after the other fell on the front portion of vehicle and crushed everything to pulp.
I was proceeding to the engineering college on the fateful day in the morning early and I found the road blocked. when I examined the site, everything was fresh, villagers were watching with dismay, and bodies were covered.
I felt very sorry for the incident and proceeded on my work via another route. The driver had no clue about the massive force that would result when veh is braked with such exceedingly large unstable load on the platform . The flimsy chains and ropes were no match.
