 By birth he was. A hungaryAustrian Greman national and He was one of the founding fathers of rocketry and astronautics. during the WW II. He worked in the development of rockets. Rom childhood he was fascinated by rockets and was much inspired by Julius Verne's fantasy that later became real. He served in WW I having been drafted by the govt to join an infantry battalion. he was at a medical school studying medicine. After war he shifted towards physics. while at university he submitted a dissertation for doctorate that was rejected calling it U topi an. He became staunch critic of German education system stating that it was like car that. Has very bright lights at the rear illuminating the oats while the front lights are absolutely dim. He also strongly was determined that he would not submit again any dissertation for Ph D degree and he  did  not need it. He challenged that one day he would become a great scientist than those holding doctorates . That he really did. He improved his 92 page dissertation first into a book through. Private publisher and it became controversial. Later he improved the book to 470 pages. That became a magnum opus for him and inspired many other scientists. He worked in USA and later returned to Germany.
