He was a German army Wehrmacht General during WW II and he commanded divisions, corps and earned decorations like knights cross iron cross. He surrendered to US General Jacob devers of US 6 th army at the end of the war. He was tried at hostages trial after War at Nuremberg by US military tribunal and was acquitted
