PHILIP MEADOWS TAYLOR..WRITER, NOVELIST OF HIGH REPUTE, ADMINISTRATOR, MILITARY OFFICER, PHILONTHROPHIST, MAN OF LETTERS 19 century..East India Company

he wrote  a novel in three volumes titled CONFESSION OF A THUG. Became very famous. even queen Victoria liked it very much. he wrote many books too. he wrote this book as a captain  and at the time of 1857 war he was a Colonel. he served as regent at SHORAPUR Kingdom in Former Gulbarga district in 1841 ...1853  taking care of administration of the kingdom and looking after the young prince VENKATAPPA NAIKA of SHORAPUR Kingdom. the princes father krishnappa Naik died in 1841 when the boy was only seven years old.In 1853 Taylor went Back to Hyderabad when the prince assumed the kingship. the young king aged 23 yrs took part in 1857 sepoy rebellionAnd was arrested and sentenced to jail term although initially he was sentenced to death . Intervention of meadows Taylor resulted in reduction of the severe sentence .But  the prince committed suicide  while being taken to the jail. Away from Hyderabd.The state Was handed over to the Nizam of Hyderabad by the east India company. Taylor's bungalow is still there on a hill in SHORAPUR well maintained in his memory. Taylor was worshipped by the people of the state as he loved his subjects took care of them helped them in famine, got dug wells even from his own money.
