Thomas Haller Cooper, (29 August 1919 – 1987), also known as Tom Böttcher, was a member of the German Waffen-SS British Free Corpsand former member of the British Union of Fascists.
He was refused jobs in Britain on the ground that his mother was a German national. Out of great resentment he joined BUF.He obtained a placement in Germany and moved to Germany and when war was declared he was arrested being an alien. However he was released when his mother submitted a certificate that he was an ethnic German .He joined Waffen SS and was wounded in combat against soviets. After recovery he was sent to BFC. after the war he was arrested and tried in Britain and sentenced to death. his appeal was rejected. However few days before hanging. His sentence was commuted to life term. He was released in 1953. he reportedly went to Japan and converted to Buddhism and took up teaching.He died at the age of 67 in 1987 after returning to England .
