PAUL SAKROWSKI
He
was a Kapo and the camp hangman of Sachsenhausen camp and also was the
foreman of crematorium in the camp. He was arrested by soviets at end
of war when they liberated the camp. He was tried at Sachsenhausen
trials also called as Berlin trials by Soviet Military tribunal in a
group of 16 defendants immediately after liberation of camp by soviets. . He was
sentenced to life term In prison.He explained to the court as to how the
gas chambers worked. He was sent along with others to work in coal
mines on polar sea Camp where five defendants died in spring of 1948.
The remaining were released in 1956 And they went to West Germany wherethey were tried again for war crimes against Germans and other non soviet prisoners. They were treated leniently as they already served the prison term in USSR. Most of themwere not put in prison an released.
