He was the admiral and chief of navy during WWII. He was
nominated by hitler to succeed after his death and this was written in the will
by hitler before he ended his life as Berlin fell to allies. therefore he
succeeded H itler as president of Germany and was the commander in chief of
Geraman forces. After the end of war , he directed Alfred jodl, the general and
operations chief of German army to Sign the instrument of surrender to allies
in France and accordingly gen Jodl signed the surrender documents. After the
war , Donitz was tried along with other top nazis at Nuremberg trials by
international military tribunal and he was sentenced to 10 years in prison.
After his release from prison , he lived quietly at a village for rest of his
life and passed away.
