MAHARAYANA BETTA FORT. KARNATAKA STATE,INDIA

  MAHARAJANA betta fort is in Alur taluq in Dist Hasan in karnataka state.It is an Hill fort and is dilapidated condition with wild growth hidden in thick forest. Much details are not known about this fort. as per local legends the place was rled by a King Veeraraja. Hewas very brave king. Buthisownpeopl econspired againsthim and killed hi son. Then the forced the king to eat his sons flesh. The king was much in pain  by this act and committed suicide by jumping from the hill. Thus the place came to be known as Magana Thinda Maharayana betta durga meaningthe  place where theng who ate flesh of his son committed suicide.  The fort has entrances built of granite columns and beams at many places . the walls are built by using rough stones and not chiseled. The upper portions of walls are made of small stones with openings for defense.The fort construction reveals it was a Hindu fort and needs preservation. At many places walls and entrances are in tact. There is a horse stable in the fort.The fort was built probably in 16 century.
