Pencil sketch of Nazi by Dr K Prabhakar Rao

ALEX BERNARD PIORKOWSKI
He was a SS Sturmbannfuehrer and was the commandant of dachou concentration camp from Feb 1940 to Mid. Sept 1942. His services were terminated owing to corruption charges. After WW II he was arrested along with his Adjutant Heinrich detemers and was tried by US military tribunal at Dachau from 06 to 17 Jan 1947 and was found guilty of war crimes and was sentenced to death. His repeated pleas for pardon were rejected and was hanged at landesberg prison on 22 October 1948. His case became very interesting because the defending lawyer who was an American fought tooth and nail to save his life till the last although he was no morea defense council for him afte the initial trial? The case was pleaded at Supreme Court of America where his plea was rejected. H e wrote a letter to President of America Harry Truman to save his life. There was no response from the President. His execution could have been stayed and his case could have been reinvestigated. Justice did not prevail in true spirit. He was sent to gallows
