He was a General in German army Wehrmacht and active
participant in anti Nazi resistance. He made plans to assassinate Hitlerand
collected various types of explosives including foreign ones.He was in close
contact with Claus stauffenburg who engineered the 20 July attempt by bomb
explosion at wolfs lair where Hitler escaped. He was arrested on the same night
and was tortured brutally by Gestapo,
But they failed to extract any information from him on fellow conspirators. He
was tried at people's court after dismissal from Wehrmacht and was sentenced to
death. On Hitlers request, he was hanged the same day at Potzensee prison in
Berlin..
