offered NSDAP golden insignia that he accepted. He grew close to Friedrich
Goerdeler as persecution of Jews increased with arrests, destruction of
property and business that he resented. He had secret discussions with Heinrich
Himmler to hold discussions with western powers for an honorable terms for
stopping the war. The activities of popitz resulted in arrest by Gestapo after
the failure of plot and he was tried by people's court by Freisler and he was
sentenced to death. He told Gestapo clearly that Jews must go from the state of
Germany but the methods adopted. By the govt are not acceptable and it can not
be sudden. Himmler hoped that some fruitful result would evolve from
discussions with western powers but when it was clear that nothing would come
out he gave a nod and Popitzwas executed in Feb 1945 at Plotzsee prison in
Berlin.
