He was German Air force ( Luftwaffe) officer of rank Lieutenant and he became a soviet spy. He joined the
Red orchestra group dubbed by Gestapo later. He also took part in publishing
anti Nazi pamphlets. He was arrested by Gestapo when secret messages from the
group were decoded by German intelligence and his identity was established. He
was tried and sentenced to death. He was executed by hanging in 1942. His body
was sent to Humbolt university for research by dissection. The resting place of his final
remains are not known
